9 Spring Books We Love For Storytime

Springtime is such a fun time with kids with so many budding adventures on the horizon. Spring is also such a great time for kids’ books. There are hundreds to choose from, so narrowing it down to our favorites was difficult, but these really are too good to miss.

  1. Planting a Rainbow: I remember reading this book as a kid and building my own flower garden with my parents after becoming inspired by the sweet story. It’s so special to enjoy it with my kids all these years later. Last year we planted our first rainbow garden, just like in the book!
  2. Rain!: Spring isn’t just about flowers and sunshine. Rain! has illustrations by our favorite, Christian Robinson, and it’s altogether a delightful tale. Robinson’s paint-and-collage digital renderings fill the city setting with crisp details. For the grumpy man, a rainy day is cause for complaint, but for the boy, it is undiluted joy. An act of kindness and a bit of role-playing lead to a change of heart, a happier outlook and a big splash.
  3. The Seedling That Didn’t Want to Grow:  A sweet ode to taking one’s time to find the right place to blossom, the story comes to its zenith with a warm, vertical double-page spread showing the no-longer-little plant in full bloom, fluttering with life and glowing under a hazy, late-spring sun.
  4. Petunia: "Petunia" by Roger Duvoisin is a spring classic due to its charming tale of a curious goose exploring the wonders of nature, perfectly capturing the spirit of renewal and growth synonymous with the season.
  5. Plant the Tiny Seed: We love this book and its tactile story of growth through interactive storytelling and vibrant illustrations. Its engaging narrative encourages young readers to participate in the planting process, making it an enjoyable and educational read that resonates with the spirit of springtime awakening.
  6. Will Spring Be Early? Or Will Spring Be Late?: This classic book by Crockett Johnson captures the anticipation and uncertainty of the changing seasons, inviting readers to wonder about the arrival of springtime just as nature begins to awaken from its winter slumber.
  7. Bunny Roo and Duckling Too: This delightful board book follows the heartwarming friendship between Bunny Roo and Duckling. With charming illustrations and simple, engaging text, it's perfect for toddlers and babies to enjoy together as they learn about love, acceptance, and the joy of friendship.
  8. The Fuzzy Duckling: A true springtime classic with beautiful illustrations and simple text, it introduces young readers to the adorable adventures of a fuzzy duckling as it explores the joys of Easter, making it a delightful addition to any little one's library.
  9. Ploof: This endearing picture book invites readers to play along with an adorable and rambunctious cloud friend named Ploof. Say hello, clap, blow, shake, wave, or make a funny face — kids will delight in seeing how their actions affect the little cloud, both physically and emotionally.
